The Canyon County Juvenile Probation Department is in the process of developing the Canyon County Accountability Board (CCAB). The CCAB is a volunteer driven organization that takes first time juvenile offenders and diverts the over burdened court system to address their "at-risk" behaviors.
The CCAB’s philosophy is based on the desire to protect the community from at-risk juvenile behavior by imposing accountability upon the youth, and in the process, provide them with the skills to help them become a responsible and productive member of the community.
It is the opportunity to work on an individual basis with these youth that makes the CCAB a rewarding experience for both the juvenile and the volunteer board members. For board members, it is rewarding to mentor youth that may remind us of ourselves during our younger years. Often we gravitate toward certain cases where we feel our experiences benefit a particular juvenile and sometimes we are able to refocus that individual on the development of positive assets that tend to reduce their at-risk behavior.
The Canyon County Juvenile Probation Department provides free training to all volunteer members desiring to work with low-risk juvenile offenders through the CCAB. The CCAB is an opportunity for us as members of the local community to invest some of our time in our youth.
