Field Services

  • Field Services of the Canyon County Sheriff's Office is under the administration of Captain Craig L. Hanson.  The Field Services Section includes Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Communications (Dispatch), Marine Patrol, Records and Driver's License.  Captain Hanson has a Bachelors Degree from Open Bible College.  He is a graduate of the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command College and he holds a POST Management Certificate.

    Captain Hanson has oversight of the Sheriff's Critical Response Unit (CRU) which includes Crisis Negotiations Team (C.N.T), Critical Incident Response Team (C.E.R.T) and Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T).

  • Patrol

    The Patrol Section is the most visible section of the Canyon County Sheriff's Office.  This section is divided into three County Sectors, which are managed by Lieutenant Donia Ballard, Lieutenant Todd Herrera and Lt. Bill Adams.

    Lieutenant Donia Ballard holds a POST Management Certificate and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command College.

  • Emergency Management & Driver's License

    Lt. Todd Herrera holds a POST Management Certificate and also serves as the County's Emergency Management Coordinator and supervises the Driver's License Unit.

  • Animal Control Unit

    Lt Bill Adams holds a POST Management Certificate. Lt. Adams also serves as supervisor to our Animal Control Unit.

  • Criminal Investigations Section

    Our detectives work in the Criminal Investigations Section. It is managed by Lieutenant Marvin Dashiell. He also holds a POST Management Certificate and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command College.

  • Marine Patrol Section

    The Marine Patrol Section is managed by Lt. Ben Keyes. Lt. Keyes has served the county in Marine Patrol for 28 years. He has achieved POST Advanced Certification and is one of four people in the State of Idaho who qualify as a Master Instructor in Marine Law Enforcement. Lt. Keyes is an instructor for all current Marine Law Enforcement classes offered by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.

  • Records and Civil Processing Units

    Lt. Lorraine Elfering serves as our the Field Services Project Manager and as supervisor for our Records and Civil Process Unit. Lorraine works closely with all members of command staff on large projects and provides administrative support when required. Lorraine holds a POST Management Certificate and is a graduate of the Executive Academy. Lorraine has extensive training in emergency management services, emergency response services and employee relations.
