October 10, 2023 — Bryan Taylor, Canyon County Prosecutor, announced today that Isaiah E. Magdaleno, age 23, of Caldwell, was sentenced by the Honorable Randall S. Grove on two counts of felony Aggravated Battery and one count of Use of a Deadly Weapon in Commission of a Felony.

Judge Grove sentenced Magdaleno to 11 years fixed, followed by 12 years indeterminate, on each count. The sentences will run concurrently for a total unified sentence of 23 years in prison. Magdaleno will serve at least 11 years before he is eligible for parole. Judge Grove also ordered Magdaleno to have no contact with the victim in the case for a period of 20 years. Magdaleno was also ordered to pay court costs and public defender reimbursement.
Magdaleno – who is a documented Norteno gang member – was arrested in December 2022 after an investigation by the Caldwell Police Department revealed he had attacked rival gang members with a knife at a convenience store in Caldwell. According to court documents, two men – one of whom is a juvenile – were attacked by Magdaleno while they were sitting in a parked car at the convenience store. During the attack, the juvenile fled into the convenience store and was followed by Magdaleno who continued to attack him with a knife. Both victims received multiple stab wounds during the attack.
“This was a senseless act of gang violence at a busy convenience store, witnessed by innocent members of the public,” said Prosecutor Bryan Taylor. “The victims did nothing to provoke this and suffered significant injuries which could have resulted in their deaths. The sentence imposed by Judge Grove sends a clear message to the community that this type of gang violence will not be tolerated.”
