Question: Where can I get voter registration cards?
Answer: You can get registration cards at the county election department, your local city hall, or call 454-7562.
 
Question: Who can register to vote?
Answer: Anyone who is a U.S. citizen, 18 years old, and has lived in the city, county or state for 30 days.
 
Question: What is the latest day I can register?
Answer: Voter pre-registration closes 25 days prior to the election. However, you can register on election day with picture ID and proof of your current address in your correct precinct which is based on your current adress.
 
Question: Do I need to re-register if I move within the county?
Answer: Yes, even if it is just across the street. You need to check and make sure you are still in the same precinct.  Precinct lines sometimes run down streets, so one side could be in one precinct and the other in another precinct.
 
Question: Is my registration good as long as I never move?
Answer: No, you have to vote at least once in a four-year period or your registration is purged.
 
Question: Does the state of Idaho register by party?
Answer: No, Idaho is a pick your party state.  That means you pick your party in the primary election in the privacy of your voting booth and then vote that straight party ticket.
 
Question: If I do not vote in the primary can I vote in the general?
Answer: Yes you may.
 
Question: Do I have to vote a straight party ticket in the general?
Answer: No.
 
Question: Is my voter registration public knowledge?
Answer: Yes, Idaho Code 34-437.
 
Question: How do I get an absentee ballot?
Answer: You can get your absentee ballot at the election department, fax a request to 208-454-6899 or you can write to the elections department at 1102 E. Chicago, Caldwell, ID 83605 and we will send you an absentee.   Your request must list your complete name and address in the county, the address you want it mailed to and must be signed by you.  Please note, parents cannot request ballots for their children.  If you are not already registered we cannot send a ballot until you get registered.
 
Question: When should I send my absentee ballot in?
Answer: You should send your ballot back as soon as you complete it.  The ballot must be in our office on or before Election day to be counted.   Do not take it to the precinct on Election day.
