The George W. Nourse Gun Range will be closed to all users on Saturday, January 26 from dawn until 3:30 p.m. to allow the Sheriff’s Inmate Labor Detail (SILD) to perform a deep clean. The closure of the gun range is necessary to help ensure the safety of the SILD crews and provide them sufficient room to do a thorough cleaning.
“The gun range has pretty much relied on the honor system to keep it clean, where everyone is encouraged to pick up after themselves and carry out what they bring in,” said Nicki Schwend, Director of Park, Cultural and Natural Resources. “But as more and more people use the range, the less the honor system seems to work. It really does need a good deep cleaning. I appreciate Sheriff Donahue for allowing us to use the SILD program to make that happen.”
Signs informing citizens of the January 26 closure have been posted at the gun range, as well as Pickles Butte Landfill and Jubilee Park.
