to build a new, 652-bed jail for the county. The $46 million bond needs
a two-thirds supermajority to pass. Two failed bond elections each
gained about 58 percent approval from the voters, but not the 66.67
required to pass.
A citizens committee, led by Steve White of
Nampa, recommended the Aug. 3 special election, to ensure federal
assistance would be available to help defray interest costs on the bond.
