Juvenile Correction officer has article printed in national publication

The Canyon County Board of Commissioners announced Wednesday that an informational article written by Southwest Idaho Juvenile Detention Center's Sean Brown has been printed in the "2010 Best in the Business" edition of the "Corrections Today" magazine.

The article, titled "Training Program Holds Officers Accountable," highlights the SWIJDC's Field Training program which was developed by Brown approximately six years ago and has been very effective in developing strengths and competencies in juvenile detention officers. According to SWIJDC Director Steven Jett, adequately trained officers considerably reduce the amount of liability Canyon County faces in operating the Center.

"Corrections Today" is the official publication of the American Correctional Association, which is the oldest and largest international correctional association in the world, boasting more than 20,000 members.

Brown has been employed by the Center since 1999 and is certified by the Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training Council to teach Suicide Prevention and Safety/Security Management. He has conducted training in several venues, including the Juvenile Justice Educators and Trainers Conference in Philadelphia, Penn., in 2008. He is presently the Training Coordinator at the SWIJDC and also sits on the Executive Board of the Juvenile Justice Trainers Association.

The SWIJDC serves Canyon, Gem, Owyhee, Payette and Washington counties.
