Beginning Friday, June 26, the Canyon County Clerk’s Office will close on Fridays at 4 p.m. The Clerk’s Office includes the following divisions: Recorder, Welfare, Elections/Passports, Auditing, and all Court Clerks. All of these offices will close at 4 p.m. with this exception: trials/hearings in progress will continue until adjourned.
This change is implemented in response to a resolution signed by the Board of County Commissioners in May. That resolution provided each employee one hour off per week, designated as an Employee Appreciation Hour. The employee appreciation hour was given in consideration for the 2.5 percent pay cut enforced earlier in the year.
According to Canyon County Clerk, Bill Hurst, “We were spending an inordinate amount of time coordinating staffing requirements during the summer months with scheduled vacation, possible sick leave absences along with implementing a mandatory one hour per week holiday.”
The County Clerk determined that the early closure on Fridays was an equitable and appropriate way to ensure staff working in his office received the hour per week for which the resolution provides while assuring staffing levels were met during regular business hours.
The early closure will continue at least through Friday, Sept. 25. Whether the early closure continues will depend on whether the Board of County Commissioners extend employee appreciation hours into the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.
Individuals who need to file documents with the court by a Friday deadline but do not make it to the office by the 4 p.m. close, may mail or fax those documents.
