Canyon County Commissioner David Ferdinand has been named chair of the National Association of Counties Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee for 2009-2010. Ferdinand has been a member of the committee for five years. His appointment was announced Tuesday, July 28, by NACo President Valerie Brown during the NACo Annual Conference held at Opryland in Nashville, Tenn.

“This is a huge honor,” Ferdinand said. “I look forward to leading this forward-thinking group for the next year.”

The Telecommunications and Technology Steering Committee leads NACo in all matters pertaining to telecommunications and technology policy, including, but not limited to, the county role as a telecommunications regulator, service provider and consumer; cable services technology and implementation; information technology development and implementation; information technology innovation; e-governance; and Geospatial data collection and utilization.

The committee has 77 members, including commissioners, IT directors and other elected officials and staff from counties throughout the United States, and meets twice a year; at the NACo Legislative Meeting in the winter, and the NACo Annual Conference in the summer. Ferdinand is also a member of the committee which plans the NACo conferences.
