Security Services
The Security Services Section of the Canyon County Sheriff's Office includes Inmate Control, Courts and Transports, Alternative Sentencing, Food Services and a Medical Unit. These units are under the direction of Captain Craig L. Hanson. Captain Hanson holds a POST Management Certificate, a Bachelors Degree from Open Bible College and is a graduate of the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command College.

Inmate Control is the largest unit in the Sheriff's Office, with 77 Deputies, 8 Corporals and 4 Sergeants. Also included in Inmate Control is our Kitchen staff, Classifications and the Supply Office. The Kitchen Staff consists of 9 Deputies who prepare and deliver over 1800 meals per day to the inmates. Our Classifications office evaluates and classifies each and every inmate booked into the jail. They conduct research use risk management procedures to safely place inmates in the proper housing units. The Supply Office in responsible for ordering and delivering all supplies to the Detention Center. Together, these four units work to keep the Detention Center a safe, comfortable and productive environment. Lt. Tami Faulhaber supervises the detention center teams, Classifications and the customer service specialists. Lt. Faulhaber has an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement and a Bachelors Degree from George Fox University in Management and Organizational Leadership. She also holds a Supervisors Certificate from POST.

Alternative Sentencing has become an integral part of functioning of the Security Services Section. The Alternative Sentencing Unit consists of the Work Release Center, the Sheriff Inmate Labor Detail (SILD) Program, Day Reporting and Pre-Trial Release. The Alternative Sentencing Unit, along with the Courts and Transports Unit are supervised by Lt. Donia Ballard. Lt. Ballard has years experience as a law enforcement officer, has worked Patrol, Investigations and Detention, and is a graduate of the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command College.

The Courts and Transports Unit of the Sheriff's Office is comprised of 23 Deputies, a Corporal and a Sergeant. This unit is responsible for protecting the County Courthouse and employees, maintaining orderly conduct of business within, the transportation of adult and juvenile inmates, serving warrants and extraditing fugitives. In 2007, the Courts and Transports Unit conducted 2,114 transports, which safely moved 12,675 adult and 656 juvenile inmates.
The Sheriff Inmate Labor Detail Program and the Work Release Center are alternative sentencing programs designed to generate revenue for the County and elevate overcrowding in our Detention Center. Between these two Units there are 3 dedicated Deputies and 2 supervising Corporals who all strive to keep these programs going.
The Medical Office team consists of 9 nurses and 1 doctor who serve all inmates in the Detention Center.
The Jail Finance office manages the Detention Center Commissary, inmate reimbursements and all immigration procedures.
