Southwest District Health and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality issued health advisories on August 6, 2021, for Lake Lowell, Hells Canyon Reservoir, and Brownlee Reservoir, urging residents to use caution when recreating in or near the water due to high concentrations of toxin-producing cyanobacteria, which can be harmful to people, pets, and livestock.
