Bryan Taylor, Canyon County Prosecutor, announced today that Jorrell D. Williams, age 23, of Nampa, was sentenced by the Honorable Gene A. Petty for five felony counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child.
Judge Petty sentenced Williams to 1 ½ years fixed, followed by 8 ½ years indeterminate, for a total unified sentenced of 10 years in prison. Judge Petty also ordered Williams to register as a sex offender andsubmit a DNA sample to the Idaho database. Williams was also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine along with court costs and $350 in public defender reimbursement. The state had recommended a sentence of 2 years fixed, followed by 8 years indeterminate.
Williams was arrested on a felony warrant in July 2017 after an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force revealed he was using the peer-to-peer network BitTorrent to download and possess child pornography. During their investigation, detectives uncovered that Williams was in possession of 265 files of child pornography and had used search terms like “pedo mom, PTHC, mom, kids, and family fun pedo” while attempting to locate and download the images and videos. Williams initially told detectives that he accidentally downloaded some of it while looking for adult porn, but later admitted to downloading the child porn because he wanted to.
“It’s obvious that the defendant in this case knowingly downloaded images and videos of child pornography based on some of the search terms he used, which are frankly appalling,” said Deputy Prosecutor Erica Kallin. “I’m thankful that he’s headed to prison where he can no longer victimize and exploit young children.”
